Former Federal Trade Commission lawyer Abigail Slater is the Internet Association’s new vice president of legal and regulatory policy, the group announced on Thursday.

Internet Association CEO Michael Beckerman praised Slater’s “deep understanding of the legal and regulatory challenges facing the Internet industry” in a statement announcing the move.

The Washington trade group has been active on issues from net neutrality to patent reform to immigration, and counts giants like Google, Facebook and Netflix among its members.
Slater has worked at the FTC for more than a decade, most recently as an attorney adviser to Democratic Commissioner Julie Brill. She also previously worked in the London and Brussels offices of the law firm Freshfields.

“Her legal and regulatory know-how, both in the U.S. and the E.U., will be put to good use as we advance public policy solutions that strengthen Internet freedom, foster innovation and economic growth, and empower users,” Beckerman said.

In a statement of her own, Slater said she was “truly grateful” to join the Internet Association.

“From Brussels to Boston, the Internet deserves effective advocates who are willing to work with diverse stakeholders,” she said.
