Director, Federal Government Affairs

The Director, Federal Government Affairs reports to IA’s Senior Vice President, Global Government Affairs and is responsible for advocacy and outreach to Congress. The ideal candidate for this position will be someone with a background in and a passion for internet policy and a deep familiarity with the legislative process. 

Activities & Responsibilities

  • Build and manage strategic relationships with federal government officials primarily in Congress and federal agencies; help shape strategic policy positions in coordination with the policy team
  • Coordinate with association members to develop political strategies to achieve desired outcomes
  • Plan for and track relevant committee hearings, legislation, and federal proposals and communicate relevant information to member companies and association colleagues in an efficient and effective manner
  • Develop written analysis, testimony, and background materials as necessary in support of IA’s objectives
  • Build strategic relationships with internal and external stakeholders to advance desired outcomes
  • Assist with coordinating federal officials at internal and external events in DC and across the country
  • Assist with the IA PAC and other political-related events
  • Work collaboratively with the communications and legal/policy teams to ensure that any efforts assigned or undertaken are in alignment with the IA’s overall mission, messaging, and strategy
  • Fulfill other duties/projects as assigned

Minimum Qualifications & Requirements:

  • Minimum of 8 years of relevant experience in federal government affairs; experience in Congress is a requirement. Relevant Energy & Commerce or Senate Commerce Committee experience is preferred
  • Knowledge of the federal legislative process
  • Outstanding written and oral communication skills, and excellent interpersonal skills
  • Detail-oriented, self-initiating, well-organized, and capable of managing multiple projects simultaneously and independently
  • Results-oriented and exhibits excellent judgement
  • A high-level of energy and a willingness to take on all variety of assignments as part of a small but dynamic team
  • Bachelor’s degree is required; advanced degree is a plus

Significant travel may be required. Salary dependent on experience.
