Director, Federal Government Affairs (Tri-Caucus)

POSITION: Director, Federal Government Affairs (Tri-Caucus)

DESCRIPTION:

This Director of Federal Government Affairs role will be primarily responsible for advocacy and outreach with specified House caucuses, committees, and members in both political parties. The ideal candidate will be politically savvy and have a background in both diversity and inclusion and internet policy. This person will be a team player, a self-starter, action-oriented, flexible, and willing to learn new skills and take on a variety of assignments.

REPORTS TO: SVP, Global Government Affairs

SPECIFICATIONS: Full-time, exempt position

PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Lead IA Tri-Caucus (Congressional Black Caucus, Congressional Hispanic Caucus, Congressional Asian Pacific American Caucus) engagement and relationships.
  • Build and manage strategic relationships with House Democrats and Republicans focused on internet economy issues (such as digital trade, enterprise cloud, or workforce priorities).
  • Help shape positions and priorities together with government affairs and policy colleagues.
  • Coordinate with IA members to develop and execute effective political strategies to advance policy priorities.
  • Monitor and influence relevant committee hearings, legislation, and federal proposals.
  • Communicate developments efficiently and effectively.
  • Develop written analysis, testimony, and background materials.
  • Build strategic relationships with internal and external stakeholders.
  • Work collaboratively to ensure alignment of IA’s mission, strategies, and messaging.
  • Advance IA’s reputation, credibility, prominence, impact, and vision.
  • Support and encourage federal government affairs colleagues, improving the team dynamic and lifting the team’s performance.
  • Assist with the IA PAC and other political events.
  • Fulfill other duties/projects as assigned.

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Strong relationships with CBC, CHC, CAPAC Members and staff.
  • Minimum of 5-10 years of relevant experience in federal government affairs.
  • Experience working in the US House of Representatives or directly and regularly with the House.
  • Background in technology, internet economy, D&I;, and/or social justice issues.
  • Knowledge of the federal legislative process.
  • Outstanding written and oral communication skills, and excellent interpersonal skills.
  • Detail-oriented, results-oriented, self-initiating, well-organized, and capable of managing multiple projects simultaneously and independently.
  • Exhibits excellent judgement.
  • High energy and a willingness to take on all variety of assignments.
  • Creative, communicative, collaborative, committed to success.
  • Bachelor’s degree is required; advanced degree is a plus.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:

  • Prolonged periods sitting at a desk and working on a computer.
  • Must be able to lift up to 10 pounds at times.

WORKING CONDITIONS: 

  • This job normally operates in a professional office environment. However, remote work may take place due to COVID-19 and any other pandemic or for any reason as determined by IA’s CEO.
  • During a pandemic, employees work from home with the option to work in the office on a voluntary basis or as needed according to state and local directives.  IA makes every effort to create and maintain an environment that is safe for our staff.
