Director, Federal Government Affairs
The Director of Federal Government Affairs will be responsible for advocacy and outreach to Congress. The ideal candidate for this position will be someone with a background in and a passion for internet policy and politics. This person will be a team player, a self-starter, and willing to learn new skills and take on a variety of assignments.
Activities & Responsibilities
- Build and manage strategic relationships with federal government officials primarily in Congress and federal agencies; help shape strategic policy positions in coordination with the policy team
- Coordinate with association members to develop political strategies to achieve desired outcomes
- Plan for and track relevant committee hearings, legislation, and federal proposals and communicate relevant information to member companies and association colleagues in an efficient and effective manner
- Develop written analysis, testimony, and background materials as necessary in support of the IA’s objectives
- Build strategic relationships with internal and external stakeholders to advance desired outcomes
- Assist with coordinating federal officials at internal and external events in DC and across the country
- Assist with the IA PAC and other political-related events
- Work collaboratively with the communications and legal/policy teams to ensure that any efforts assigned or undertaken are in alignment with the IA’s overall mission, messaging, and strategy
- Fulfill other duties/projects as assigned
Minimum Qualifications & Requirements:
- Minimum of 8 years of relevant experience in federal government affairs; experience in Congress is a requirement
- Knowledge of the federal legislative process
- Outstanding written and oral communication skills, and excellent interpersonal skills
- Detail-oriented, self-initiating, well-organized, and capable of managing multiple projects simultaneously and independently
- Results-oriented and exhibits excellent judgement
- A high-level of energy and a willingness to take on all variety of assignments as part of a small but dynamic team
- Bachelor’s degree is required; advanced degree is a plus
Significant travel may be required. Salary dependent on experience.
