Consumer privacy is top of mind for policymakers, industry, and people across the country. This panel will provide an overview of the laws and regulations currently on the books around the world, including the General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR) in the EU and the California Consumer Privacy Act (CCPAA),as well as a discussion about possible federal legislation.

Internet companies know that to be successful they must meet people’s reasonable expectations with respect to how the personal information they provide to companies will be collected, used, and shared. IA members are committed to transparent data practices, and to continually refine consumer-facing policies so that they are clear, accurate, and easily understood by all users. This panel will provide an overview of privacy bills in Illinois, as well as a discussion about a comprehensive approach and key principles to be included in privacy proposals moving forward.
