IA Releases August Online Jobs Report Showing Number Of Online Jobs Postings More Than Tripled, Compared To Last Year

Washington, DC – Internet Association today released the August IA Industry Indicators: Jobs (3i Jobs) report, which presents monthly insights on the U.S. job market using data from national and internet-based resources. The report tracks trends in the traditional and freelance job markets and presents unique information on hiring, openings, and online income by combining original IA analysis with data from IA member companies including Thumbtack and Indeed.

“The internet is an increasingly important resource in the modern job economy,” said IA President & CEO Michael Beckerman. “Online job postings have more than tripled and half of all Americans are now using the internet to search for jobs. This month’s 3I Jobs report underlines just how critical the internet is to the labor economy.”

Key findings from the report include:

  • Online postings more than tripled compared to last year. Online job postings were up 222.7 percent year-over-year, and down slightly (1.3 percent) month-over-month.
  • The three top postings for full-time positions online in July were customer service representative, retail sales associate, and administrative assistant. The three top postings for part-time positions online in July were retail sales associate, customer service representative, and administrative assistant.
  • Traditional job searches through the internet increased 3.5% in July. According to an IA survey, 52.7 percent of Americans used the internet to search for a traditional job, an increase of 3.5 percent over June.
