Washington, DC – Internet Association today released the July IA Industry Indicators: Jobs (3i Jobs) report, which presents monthly insights on the U.S. job market using data from national and internet-based resources. The report tracks trends in the traditional and freelance job markets and presents unique information on hiring, openings, and online income by combining original IA analysis with data from IA member companies including Thumbtack and Indeed.
“This month’s 3i Jobs Report shows how critical the internet is to the modern labor economy,” said IA Chief Economist Dr. Christopher Hooton. “Half of all Americans searched for a job online last month and 15 percent found one. Both those statistics are also trending upward month-over-month demonstrating the growing value of the internet to people’s job search.”
Key findings from the report include:
- Half of U.S. adults searched online for traditional jobs in June 2019; 15 percent found jobs. According to an IA survey, 49.2 percent of Americans used the internet to search for a traditional job. 14.5 percent of those surveyed said they were hired for a job were they originally applied online.
- Online postings and national unemployment suggest a shift from part-time positions to more full-time work. Part-time job postings were down 5.2% month over month, while full-time positions remained relatively flat, decreasing only 0.1% percent.
- The three top postings for full-time positions online in June were customer service representative, retail associate, and administrative assistant.
