Washington, DC – Internet Association (IA) today released the January IA Industry Indicators: Jobs (3i Jobs) report, which presents monthly insights on the U.S. job market using data from national and internet-based resources. The report tracks trends in the traditional and freelance job markets and presents unique information on hiring, openings, and online income by combining original IA analysis with data from IA member companies including Thumbtack and Indeed.
“Despite a sizable drop in online full-time jobs postings last month, we still saw a massive 240 percent increase over the last 12 months,” said IA Chief Economist Dr. Christopher Hooton. “The internet continues to rapidly grow as a place for Americans to find jobs, even as BLS figures show overall national job openings declining.”
Key findings from the report include:
- Online full-time (FT) postings continued to decrease while part-time (PT) postings increased in December 2019. Full time postings were up 240.7 percent year-over-year and down 5 percent month-over-month. Part-time postings were up 39.2 percent year-over-year and 3.9 percent month-over-month.
- Online job searches increased in December 2019 while internet usage to earn income, apply for jobs, and hire workers began to fall. Job searches were up 0.5 percent, applications were down 0.4 percent, hirings were down 1.1 percent, and use of the internet to earn income was down 2 percent.
- The three top postings for full-time positions online in December were customer service representative, retail sales associate, and administrative assistant. The three top postings for part-time positions online in December were retail sales associate, customer service representative, and administrative assistant.
