IA Statement Commending Passage of The MGT Act

IA President & CEO Michael Beckerman released the following statement on the passage of the Modernizing Government Technology (MGT) Act of 2017:

“The internet industry applauds today’s final passage of the MGT Act. This commonsense, bipartisan measure promises to facilitate a more secure and modern IT infrastructure for federal agencies, including through wider adoption of commercial cloud services. Roughly three-quarters of the federal government’s $80 billion-plus IT budget is spent to maintain often outdated, legacy systems, undermining cybersecurity, citizen services, and taxpayer value. The MGT Act addresses this through new working capital accounts and a $500 million fund to accelerate long-overdue modernization.

“IA thanks Representatives Will Hurd (R-TX), Robin Kelly (D-IL), and Gerry Connolly (D-VA), as well as Senators Jerry Moran (R-KS), Tom Udall (D-NM), Steve Daines (R-MT), and Mark Warner (D-VA) for their longstanding support for IT modernization. IA also thanks President Trump and the White House’s Office of American Innovation for the important role they have played on this issue.”
