WASHINGTON, DC – Internet Association (IA) today announced the promotion of Michael Bloom to Vice President of Federal Government Affairs to oversee the association’s advocacy efforts before Congress and the federal government. Bloom’s promotion comes as IA grows its national and international presence, with new offices in Chicago and London and the expansion of the Policy, Government Relations, and Communications teams.
“Michael is a recognized leader in the tech policy community and a valuable partner to our member companies,” said Melika Carroll, Senior Vice President of Global Government Affairs. “His success and track record of advancing pro-innovation internet policies make him the perfect fit to lead our growing Federal Government Affairs team.”
Bloom will lead the Federal Government Affairs team in advocating for the internet industry. He is being promoted from Senior Director of Federal Government Affairs, where he managed advocacy efforts before Congress and the federal government on behalf of IA member companies. Bloom previously served as a Senior Advisor to House Democratic Leader Nancy Pelosi. He will continue reporting to Melika Carroll, Senior Vice President of Global Government Affairs.
Bloom’s promotion is part of a broader transition for IA, as the association expands its federal government affairs team, launches its first international office in London, and looks to hire a Director of State Government Affairs for the Midwest Region in the U.S. IA’s State Government Affairs team currently has offices in California, Washington State, and New York.
“This is an exciting time of rapid growth for IA,” said IA President and CEO Michael Beckerman. “Our growth in DC, as well as our expansion into Chicago and London will allow the association to better serve IA members globally and domestically and to further advocate for a thriving internet ecosystem.”
