Statement on USTR Digital Services Tax Announcement

Washington, DC – Internet Association issued the following statement on the Office of The United States Trade Representative’s (USTR) announcement that  Austria, India, Italy, Spain, Turkey, and the United Kingdom remain subject to potential action for adoption discriminatory Digital Services Taxes (DST):

“The internet industry appreciates USTR’s announcement reaffirming that six countries remain subject to potential actions for adopting discriminatory Digital Services Tax targeting the U.S. digital sector. The internet industry is a great American export, supporting millions of jobs and businesses of all sizes. The time has come for global tax rules to be updated for the digital age, which is why there is a process to reach an international consensus happening at the OECD. Today’s move by USTR is an important affirmation in pushing back on these discriminatory trade barriers as the U.S. continues to work to find a viable solution at the OECD.”
